Leading the pack is the hot-headed Red (Jason Sudeikis), who has pretty much become symbolic of the franchise. The makers throw in a lot of slapstick comedy by a battery of old and new characters of all shapes, sizes and colours. Right from the first scene, it’s established that this sequel of ‘The Angry Birds’ is strictly a kiddie flick and thankfully, it never tries to be anything other than that. Story: In this sequel, the flightless angry birds and the green piggies must put their rivalry on hold and come together to save their islands from a rogue eagle named Zeta (Leslie Jones). What more can one want from an animation film aimed at children? All-in-all, though it doesn't quite match up to the lofty standards set by Disney, The Angry Birds Movie 2 provides silly, goofy fun and life lessons to boot. Summing up, this sequel is actually better than the first film, thanks to some inspired writing and also the natural ease portrayed by the entire voice cast. Thankfully it's all done in a non-preachy manner. So you have sequences inspired from Mission Impossible films - there is a crazy scene involving a floating bird feather drifting towards the guards snatched in the nick of time by some snazzy cable reminiscent of the opening scene of the first MI film. The film, which is directed by Thurop Van Orman and co-directed by John Rice seems like a virtual homage to various heist films liked by the two directors. It's something that goes a long way towards resolving the conflict. Another plot tangent involves the romance between Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage) and Zeta, told through flashbacks. Chuck's super smart sister Silver (Rachel Bloom) too tags along and the motley crew somehow manages to avert the catastrophe.Īpart from this, there is a subplot involving the rescue of three eggs by a trio of baby angry birds and the misadventures they have while undertaking it. He chooses Bomb (Danny McBride) and speedster Chuck (Josh Gad) as also Leonard and his two cohorts to be on his team. Since their very survival is at stake, and the calamity is giving him a chance to be a hero all over again, Red signs up for the mission. King pig Leonard (Bill Hader) patches up with Red (Jason Sudeikis), the hero of the first film and de facto leader of the bird island. Both Bird and Piggy Islands are under attack from Eagle Island, ruled by purple coloured Zeta (Leslie Jones) who uses a volcano-type super-weapon to toss ice bombs at the two islands as she wants to take them over.
